The Aftermath (The SHOW 2019) The LAEFL Championship

“Defense wins championships “,were the words heard coming from 3-time LAEFL champion Anthony Price. His Rams just beat Eric Robinson’s Raiders 7-0 for back to back championship and his third in the last 4 seasons.

The road was hard fought as the Rams found themselves in a real battle early in the first round. Defense came to the rescue in the second half and took away the big play that helped the Vikings stay close. SKOL was heard no more as the Rams went on to a 46-13.

Round 2 was no easy task as the number one seed Seahawks were waiting next. The game was over early as the Rams defense put the hammer down on the Seahawks. Every time the Seahawks tried to run they were pushed back. every time they tried to pass they were either sacked or had to throw the ball away as they couldn’t get open. On offense the Rams could do what they wanted. If they wanted to run the ball it was there all day. Throwing the ball they couldn’t be stopped. It was in the second half when the Seahawks made it a game only for a brief moment back to back drives resulting in touchdowns brought the game to within 2 scores but the Rams would have none of that and secured their trip to the SHOW with a 31-14 win.

Next up Eric Robinson and his Oakland Raiders. Anthony won his first title over the Raiders three years ago. This was a mental test of the wits between these two rivals. The game was a heavyweight slugfest from the start. The Raiders defense came to play as well. That vaunted offense that was on display in the early rounds was no where to be found in the first half as both defenses controlled the tempo. Field position was a key factor in the game as the Raiders were playing from deep in their own end most of the game. Early in the third quarter it cost them. A short Ray Guy punt sets up the Rams on a short field. Ferragamo went to work with a short passing game and Little Ant did the damage on the ground. Earl Bruce caught the 20yd pass and with the extra point the Rams led 7-0 midway through the third quarter.

Tenacity all game long never giving an inch and when they did give they took back on the next play. The Raiders never could sustain any offense, 4 first downs for the game and they didn’t convert on three third down chances. The Rams faired better on third downs going 3-5 and they had 7 first downs for the game. Late in the fourth looking put the game away the Rams drove to the Raiders 20yd line and were lining up for a 37 yd field goal. Wide right the Raiders dodged a game ending score and had under 2 minutes to tie the game up. A quick Marcus Allen run and time out. Then the tenacity was released and the Raiders never saw it coming. Sack, Sack, incomplete ,incomplete. Back to Back Champions.

Final score 7-0 Rams and Coach Anthony Price becomes the first three time champion of the Los Angeles Electric Football League. Reporting for The Buzz the unofficial newsletter of the LAEFL ,I’m Rastahaze and this was the championship of the LAEFL according to me.

The Game

It started out really as a joke to see who would pick up on the reference of it and now it’s the LAEFL’s most anticipated game. Smoke a Bowl, pits James “Shabby J” Portillo and his New York Jets against Cleon “Rastahaze” Tate Jr and his San Francisco 49ers.

Over the years this game has taken on a life of its own. At first it was played during the college years of the league as a rivalry game and was later carried over with a trophy for the winner to hold until the next game. Next season it will be the featured game for the LAEFL 420 games.

Early on the game wasn’t much of a rivalry (Shabby J) holds the series lead 5-3, but Cleon (Rastahaze) has won the last two. “I get geared up for this game I love playing EFL but this game is for the chalice”, stated coach Tate when asked about this game. Every game is important but when it’s your rival it means a little more.

Saturday June 15th in Irvine CA Smoke a Bowl 9 goes down.

Rams dominate and take LAEFL crown

Sherman Oaks CA-

Anthony Price and his Los Angeles Rams never looked like they were in trouble as they cruised to a 20-3 win over Perry Burke and his Dallas Cowboys.

Leading up the SHOW XVI, it looked like the Cowboys were on a mission. They blow out the 49ers and Raiders to get to their second SHOW title game.  On the other hand the Rams struggled with the Eagles before putting them away to reach their second SHOW final.  The consensus was Cowboys in a landslide, but someone forgot to tell coach Price and his Rams.

From the opening series it was apparent the Cowboys had no answers for the Rams defense nor the offense.  The Cowboys went 3 and out on their first series and the Rams went right down the field and scored.  Eric Dickerson broke a run of 62yds and the Rams offense went into another gear and two plays later were in the endzone on a Todd Gurley 10yd reception. Extra point was good 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

The Cowboys ensuing drive started off promising.  A run of 37yds followed by a Dak Prescott 3yd run had the Cowboys making some noise.  That was short lived as Prescott and the offense who were hot coming into this game suddenly went cold throwing the ball.  Their next three plays were incomplete passes and the Rams had the ball and wasted little time getting back into the endzone.  Vince Ferragamo had two runs of 24 & 22 yds followed by a touchdown pass to Eric Dickerson for 30yds.  The extra point was good and after the first quarter the Rams were up 14-0 over the Cowboys.

The second quarter wasn’t any better for the Cowboys and coach Perry Burke.  Still missing passes and giving up on the running game way to early the Rams defense set their ears back and just kept coming in waves.  In total they had seven sacks of Dak Prescott.  During the regular season the Rams got to Dak 10 times.  In two games the Rams recorded 17 sacks and held the Cowboys to 3 points in each contest.  The Rams scored to close the scoring in the first half on 59yd pass play.  They missed the extra point  and lead at halftime 20-0.

The second half of the game was just a defensive struggle.  The Cowboys scored to avoid the shutout on a 51yd field goal. When the final seconds ticked off the clock coach Anthony Price and his Rams were victorious 20-3 and now he joins the twice is nice club. Dave Campbell, Robert Jackson, Marcello Troilo and Eric Robinson and now Anthony Price belong to this club.

The final stats: The Rams rushed for 123yds on 12 carries with a long run of 62yds. The Cowboys rushed for 53yds on 5 carries long run of 37yds. Passing stats were Rams 117yds with three touchdowns on 5 of 8 passing.  59yds was the longest pass completion and that went for one of the three touchdown passes.  The Cowboys went 3 of 10 for 98yds.  They were sacked 7 times for -23yds.  Neither team converted a third down the Rams were 0-2 and the Cowboys were 0-5.  The Rams converted their lone fourth down try the Cowboys went 0-2.  Two Ram players had two sacks each while one Cowboy lead his team with three tackles.

Reporting for the LAEFL this Rastahaze and this was the SHOW according to me.  See you at the Open Run the second weekend of October.
